Hello friends, welcome back to my blog. You probably have heard of Amazon pharmacy and Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug. These are online pharmacies that are supposed to provide medications quicker and less expensive. As a pharmacist / Pharmacy director, let’s discuss a few questions about Amazon pharmacy.

 What is the normal process of filling prescriptions?

You are sick – visit a doctor – they write a prescription – you take your prescription to your local pharmacy – If you have insurance for medication, you will pay a fraction of the cost – without insurance, you will pay out of your pocket. 

Pretty simple process right? Let’s throw a wrench in that flow. What happens if you can’t go to your pharmacy because you live far away? What if your local pharmacy people are mean? What if you hate paying so much for your prescription?

What is good about Amazon Pharmacy?

Here is the summary of the benefits. 

The 4 primary benefits that Amazon Pharmacy brings to the tables are:

1. Pharmacist on call 24/7: I hope they are quicker in answering the phone versus when I have to call Walgreens or Rite Aid (because they are so busy and short staff)
2. Free delivery: not all pharmacies offer deliveries. And the one that does: time slot of delivery is very limited and most pharmacies want you to be home to sign for it.  
3. I can transfer existing prescriptions from my local pharmacy to Amazon pharmacy or I can tell the doctor to send electronic prescriptions to Amazon pharmacy.

4. Manage medications on your phone (CVS and other pharmacies also have the same application): Quickly access all your active meds and prescription details, order history, and shipping status.

Problem of RX pass

1. Their drug formulary is pretty small. Hopefully over time, they can carry more medications
2. RX pass cost more money (Additional $5 a month) to access

Can I work as a pharmacist for Amazon Pharmacy?

Yes you can. You can go to the Job section and type pharmacist on the search bar. 

I found a few full time and per diem jobs. Some I can work remotely. Others I have to be on site.
