*Guess what. My fiance and I just booked our tickets to the Universal Orlando in April. We always try to do one big vacation every year and this year it will be in the alligator state, Florida.

*A lots of research were done about this trip. Today I will share with you how I was able to save $775.20 on travel tickets, plus some other good deals.

How I saved over $700 on air tickets to Orlando, Florida

Air ticket search

For any one who travel light like myself, Frontier or Spirit are great options. Their prices are competitive and affordable especially if you make short trips within the States. And yes, before you start venting about their baggage fee, it does worth your while if you pack your luggage strategically.

Frontier Baggage Fees

Frontier always has fantastic deals going on. You can’t beat $20 for an airplane ticket. For instance, it costs $20 to travel from Las Vegas to Austin, TX. Restrictions are applied, but this is a great deal if you plan well ahead of time.

Frontier Tickets Deal

For our trip, it costs $296.60 per person to travel from Ontario, CA to Orlando, FL. If you take a closer look at the attachment below, you will notice that it is much cheaper if you can fly out on the weekdays versus weekend.

Luggage Packing

Luggage Size

We combined all our clothes and necessities into just one big luggage for check-in. Checked baggage fees ranged from $30 to $55 depending on whether the fee was pre-paid or paid at the airport. We spent a total of $100 on our last trip for one checked luggage on Frontier.

Each of us allowed to have one personal item which were free of charge.

The dimension of the personal item is 18″W x 14″H x 8″ D as described in the picture.

How I save $775.20 on tickets

Credit card points. Yes, that is it. I have both Chase Freedom and Chase Sapphire credit card. In my case, I have 30,000 points from Freedom and 48,000 points from Sapphire.

When I combined points, I made a huge mistake because I I transferred all points from Sapphire to Freedom.

Let’s me explain. Under Chase Ultimate Reward program, the points system is simple: 1 point = 1 cent if used towards cash back, travel expenses and other items. This stays true for most cards. But if you have other fee-based cards, Chase Sapphire Preferred in this case, 1 point worth 25% more when you spend toward tickets for certain airlines: 1 point = 1.25 cents. Keep in mind that points value will not be the same for all airlines.

For American Airline and United Airline: 1 points = 1.25 cent

So I had to call customer service and canceled the tickets. After I got my points back, I put all my points in Sapphire and was able to use fewer points for the same ticket cost.

Only spent 62,016 pts for $775.20 ticket cost

I hope you guys find values from this blog. E mail me if you have any question and I will try my best to answer.
