Owning a dog is not that bad. When I was about 5, my family had a German shepherd. He passed away out of old age and poor health when I was around 10. I didn’t have much memory of him mainly because I was little and we moved around quite a bit. He was staying with my aunt before he passed. I still remembered before he was put down, my mother took me to see him for the last time, and it was quite depressing now I think about it.
2 years ago, my fiance and I adopted a little poodle mix bichon frise. His name is Coco Cabana Tran, and he has been our bundle of joy. Here is a picture of him:
Before we adopted Coco, my main concern was the cost of owning a dog: foods, toys, maintenance, and health check-ups. I thought it was going to be expensive, but maintaining a dog is almost like taking care of a child. You just have to be smart about what you are buying. Here are some of the items I often buy for Coco and have had excellent experiences with.

He will become constipated if he is not fed with wet foods. I pick this kind because it comes in an individual container and I can easily scoop out a tiny portion to mix with dry foods. One small portion lasts him for about a week and a half. We have been feeding him this kind for the past 2 years, and he continues to enjoy it.

Coco is not a picky eater, but he has preferences. We went through all kind of dry foods. He usually doesn’t eat them right away when we feed it to him. Recently we got this from our local Von’s, and there is a little improvement. He eats this right away when we feed him. Amazon sells it for $21.92 for a total of 4 bags (46oz each). We got the single bag from our loco Von’s for about $8.

When we visit the abandon mines in Calico Ghost town, we stumbled across a little cute dog shop and found this. There are a bunch of nutrition packed in this bottle and our Coco love it. It is beneficial for his health and also improves his appetite. We usually add a little bit of this when mixing his foods.

Coco’s breath is not the best. We have been looking for a treat that he likes and also to keep his breath a little less stinky. He tried many different kinds, but it always ends up too dry. These type of treats dry up fast if you accidentally left it open. I have started using this about 2 months ago, and I can see a little improvement in his breath. I also try to brush his teeth at least twice a week. This treat is still a little too big for him, so I break it in half.

Coco is not potty trained. He well behaves for the most part but accident still happen if I leave him by himself. We put the pad in his cage and replace them every time he finished his business. I have looked at the potty training program at Petco but it is a 6-weekend-long program, and I am not sure if I can make it.
